Radioactive
Ionizing radiation emitted from radioisotopes and radiation-emitting devices is an essential tool in both research and teaching activities of universities. Since ionizing radiation is potentially hazardous, both from radiotoxicity and external exposure, strict regulations have been developed in the form of federal legislation (Nuclear Safety and Control Act) and institutional policies to protect employees, students and the general public from unnecessary or potentially harmful levels of radiation exposure.
