Concordia Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Concordia is in the process of re-organizing the Emergency Responder Program. The idea is to base the program on CERT programs in other Universities both in Canada and the U.S. Like our current program, CERT is made up of University staff volunteer that assists during building evacuations but also during other large scale emergency operations.

Cert teams are organized by buildings with a team leader and team members assigned specific floors or areas of responsibility. The team most often operates within its building or a grouping of smaller buildings but during a large scale emergency, teams from other buildings could be called in to provided necessary support.

Currently, CERT Members receive the following training free of charge:

  • First aid & CPR.
  • Emergency procedures orientation.
  • Fire extinguisher training.
  • Evac-Chair use.

We are hoping to introduce a new training program that would be expanded to include some of the following elements:

  • Individual and Family Preparedness.
  • Emergency Response Organization at Concordia.
  • CERT & Disaster Response at Concordia.
  • Light Urban Search and Rescue Operations.
  • Disaster Psychology.
